- Velma R. Krings, 83 of Cedar Rapids, NE, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward, NE.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 3, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE with Msgr. Ralph Steffensmeier officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Visitation will resume 8:30 - 10 a.m. Thursday morning at Levander Funeral Home of Cedar Rapids, NE.
Velma Rose Krings, 83, died Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward, NE.
Mrs. Krings was born March 21, 1930, the third child of Oscar T. Tschudin and Ella A. (Schoening) Tschudin, in rural Nance County west of Belgrade, NE. She was baptized at Peace Lutheran church located near Belgrade.
Velma’s first two years of schooling was in a one room, rural, Nance County school and when her family moved to a farm south of Cedar Rapids, NE, she finished her education at a rural school, district #48. She graduated in 1948 from the Cedar Rapids Public High School.
Velma did housekeeping and babysitting duties for various families in the area and, also, worked in the cafeteria at the Cedar Rapids Public Schools for a few years.
Mrs. Krings was a member of the Women’s Legion Auxiliary Post #44.
She married David D. Krings in “The Chapel of the Flowers” at Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 21, 1970, and they made their home on a farm southwest of Cedar Rapids, NE.
Later in life she developed dysphagia, a condition of the esophagus which makes swallowing very difficult and was the ultimate cause of her death.
Velma enjoyed the flower garden in their yard, entertaining nieces and nephews and family and hosted early morning breakfasts for friends after midnight mass at St. Anthony’s until she was no longer able.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, David, a sister Ila Mae Bulow, a sister-in-law and husband Mary and R.T. Jackson, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Arlow Tschudin, sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and Dillard Farmer, and a brother-in-law Harry Bulow.
