ELIJAH w/Mary 1810 Real Estate Transaction (Randolph County)

Elijah mustered in the War of 1812 in 2nd Regiment, Burke Co, NC, and later with the 1st Regiment of Mississippi Vols. aka 1st Regiment U.S. Vols under General Claiborne and Captain Samuel Dale at Ft. Madison in September and October 1813. In 1818, Elijah was an Overseer of Line Road: from Doddings to Crop Road (road runs east to the Alabama River and “Presnall Landing” at the mouth of Silver Creek).

Elijah Presnall moved to Clarke County, AL between 1815 and 1818. He owned a plantation on the Alabama River (then in Monroe County), which he operated with slave labor (according to the 1830 census, he owned 8 slaves). It is believed that he is buried on the land he owned.

There is an Elijah Presnall who was a bondsman at the marriage of Thomas Dunning and Lillis Ann Pearson in 1815 in Randolph Co, NC. Do not know the relationship. Supposedly the Dunnings and Elijah Presnall came to the Alabama Territory in 1815-1816. There is a Presnall living next door to Thomas Dunning in the 1816 Monroe Co, AL census. The early Alabama settlers most often came down the Federal Road and located along the Alabama River. The Alabama Genweb site has a map of the Federal Road route posted. The 1816 Monroe and Clarke County censuses are posted on the "Tracking your Roots" website.
