    Notes:

Lon H. Pressnall, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Pressnall, was born Oct. 1, 1868 in Henry County, Indiana and passed away March 16, 1957, at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 16 days.

He was one of fifteen children, nine of whom grew to maturity. His father preceded him in death in 1918 and his mother in 1934.

When he was a very small boy he came to Republic County Kansas in a covered wagon. He, along with the family of six sons and three daughters, endured the hardships of of a rugged pioneer life. Most of his early life was lived on the home farm south of Rose Creek Chapel Church.

On Feb. 17, 1897, he was united in marriage to Clara O. Brown. They started housekeeping on his own farm where they always lived southeast of Chester until he retired from active work in 1922.

Their family of three sons and two daughters were all born and reared in their original home. Their children were William, John V. Lulla, Harley and Fern. After leaving the farm, they moved to Chester where he resided until the past year.

His wife preceded him in death in July 1944. Also one son, John V. of Winfield, Kans., in 1940.

He was a member of the Chester Christian Church and always enjoyed attending the services as long as his health permitted. He enjoyed very good health all his life until a year ago when he required surgery. Since that time he has been cared for in the home of his two daughters, the home of Merton Pressnall of Munden, Kans., and the Blue Valley Home in Hebron. He was a patient there for the past five months.

"Gramps" as he was affectionately called by his grandchildren and friends will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a familiar figure on the streets of Chester, as his walks were one of his favorite pastimes.

He is survived by two sons, William Pressnall of Beatrice, Harley Pressnall of Santa Ana, Calif., two daughters, Mrs. Lulla Frye of Byron and Mrs. Fern Smith of Cozad, two daughters-in-law Mrs. Mona Pressnall of Winfield, Ks., Mrs. Clara Pressnall of California, two sons-in-law, Clarence Frye, and Don Smith, one brother, Merton Pressnall of Munden, Ks., one sister, Mrs. Effie Smith of Hutchison, Kans., 13 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Included among the grandchildren is Mrs. Vernon Naysmith who helped so faithfully in caring for him in his last illness. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held from the Christian Church, Chester, Monday, March 18, Rev. Frank Perry officiating. A quartet, Mrs. Wilbert Crouse, Mrs. Melvin Crouse, Ernest Moxham and Kenneth Messman, sang accompanied by Mrs. Ray Truss.
