Interesting that John and Mary Devore Hodge were married in Knox County, Indiana. Indiana was still a territory until Indiana became the 19th state in 1816.

The English Proclamation of 1763 forbid any settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains. It was not until 1783, under the Treaty with England, that this area became under the control of the United States.
Therefore this area was truly a frontier at the time of their marriage. Knox County was established on 20 June 1790.
